Accessing Wireless Internet at McGill:

McGill participates in the eduroam program.  If your institution is a participant, you can login to the McGill servers (preferably wpa.mcgill.ca, otherwise mcgill.ca, which is unsecured – so to use only if your device doesn’t support WPA) using your institutional login and password.  For troubleshooting, see: http://kb.mcgill.ca/kb/?ArticleId=1214&source=article&c=12&cid=2#tab:homeTab:crumb:7:artId:1243

Public Transit:

See the website of the public transport corporation: http://www.stm.info/English/a-somm.htm for more details. You can get tickets and 1- or 3-day passes quite inexpensively from any metro station. Regular fare without pass or ticket is $3 in exact change.

The nearest metro stops to McGill are “Peel” and “McGill” on the “green” line.

McGill Philosophy Department:

Café Castel: 1015 Sherbrooke West, just east of the hotel.

Humble Lion: 904 Sherbrooke West, across from McGill main gates.

There are a number of restaurants across from McGill University on Sherbrooke.  There are many more, and better, restaurants to be found on Ste. Outdoor Activities:

There is excellent jogging and hiking on Mont Royal, uphill north of the McGill campus.  There is a staircase leading to the walking/cycling paths at the north end of Peel Street.  There is a magnificent lookout at the top of the mountain, if you follow the directions to the Chalet du Mont Royal.  The walk to the top would take about an hour and a half, and could be jogged in under an hour.

There is also a bicycle rental service in Montreal, BIXI.  This is an excellent way to see Montreal.  You can rent a cycle using a credit card at the automated BIXI stands, which are ubiquitous in downtown Montreal.  For information on the rental policy and stand locations, see the website: bixi.com
